Ms.Gowri Tirumurti has over 30 years of experience in Intellectual Property (IP). Her journey began with enrolment in the Delhi Bar Council in 1991. From 2019 to April 2024, Gowri served as Partner and Head of Trademark Exports at a leading IP firm, where she was responsible for managing trademark filings, prosecution, searches, and oppositions across various jurisdictions. Her role included overseeing trademark-related matters and providing expert opinions on issues like cancellations.
Between 2014 and 2018, Gowri worked at a renowned Malaysian law firm, where she managed diverse international trademark portfolio. She handled filings, renewals, assignments, and oppositions for well-known corporations, covering regions like the USA, UK, EU, China, and Japan. Prior to that, from 2008 to 2014, she was with a leading IP Firm in India, where she gained extensive experience in trademark portfolio management, litigation, patent infringement, and copyright proceedings in the Madras High Court and the Intellectual Property Appellate Board. Additionally, Gowri was instrumental in obtaining Geographical Indications (GIs) for a range of products, from overseas including Tequila, Munchen Bier and Bayerische Bier, Indian textiles such as Mangalagiri, Narayanpet and Dharmavaram textiles, Agricultural products like Byadgi Chillies of Dharwad region, and Guntur Sannam Chilly from Guntur, etc.
Beyond her trademark expertise, Gowri has contributed to various IP and GI conferences and has been involved in high-profile litigation cases, such as the Madras High Court order regarding Tirupati Laddu. She has also collaborated with clients to obtain customs registrations in India and overseas. Gowri has co-authored articles in renowned publications like World Trademark Review and has presented on IP and GI topics at significant industry events, including those organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Cognizant Technology Solutions.
